How to become HVAC technician is simple, all you need is to follow the basic requirements and you’re good to go. Here are some of the general requirements required by most HVAC training schools in the country.

HVAC Training Requirements

  • High school diploma or pass an equivalency examination
  • Must be at least 18 years of age during application

Other than the mentioned requirements, students must have good problem solving and analytical skills in order to fill in the position. HVAC deals primarily with machines and most of the time having a good understanding and mental prowess can help you out in troubleshooting. Computer skills are also essential as students with computer background can gain in depth knowledge in the HVAC classes.

How to get HVAC Certification

After you finished your degree in HVAC it is best that you be certified. Having a HVAC certification not only boosts your chances of getting hired but also you are paid higher than the average compared to those who don’t have certifications.

You can be certified by going to accredited HVAC schools. According to statistics, most HVAC technicians can get their certificate by going to the Armed Service.  Earning a certificate can take years from six months or as long as two years depending on the students choice of school and certificate that they are applying for. Most exams are administered by schools, accredited HVAC certification schools or training programs. Or you can call the HVAC Excellence, The National Center for Construction Education and Research or the Partnership for Air-Conditioning Heating and Refrigeration Accreditation.

HVAC Job Opportunities

HVAC jobs are plentiful in the United States and in many parts of the world.  Jobs can vary depending on the position you are applying for. You can be assigned to a building that manages the heating and air-conditioning or you could go private by being an on-call HVAC technician.

A typical HVAC salary may range from $17.00 to 27.00 per hour or $37,290 annually.  Non certified technicians are reported to earn at $12.00 an hour so it is suggested that you get certified before getting a job.
